We love Wales, don’t you? The hills, the waterfalls, the views but the weather is usually a let down. When we visited Wales was in the middle of a heat wave – lucky us!
1. Stay at Big Barn Camping
The most beautiful views were found at Big Barn Camping, just sat outside our little pod, we would watch the sun set with our camp fire and some gentle tunes in the background. It was serene.

2. Pendine Sands is a must
Pendine Sands is a long strip of sand that stretches for around seven miles so plenty of space for you to spread out, relax and soak up the sun (don’t forget your factor 50, we happened to go in the middle of a heatwave and didn’t prepare as much as we should have). There are a few places for you to eat and shop beach must haves.
A plus – dogs are allowed on the beach all year round!

3. Experience homemade Welsh cakes
Welsh cakes are a necessity when visiting Wales, and we picked some up from The Old Market Square in Camarthen High Street.

4. Explore the Welsh countryside with Gwili Railway
Set in the beautiful Welsh countryside with abundant wildlife, the line follows the River Gwili on a journey through farmland and wooded hillsides. The views were stunning. It was a hot day for us and thank goodness we bought fans as the train was very VERY hot.

5. Go for a trek at Brecon Beacons
We got lost and abandoned the car and did the rest on foot. We found a little stream, got in and walked up stream until we had enough, it was nice to just aimlessly walk and chat.

6. Drive 1 hour to Zip World and experience the ‘Phoenix’
We were kindly gifted a trip to Zip World for our birthdays and it was the most fun! We love adrenaline filled activities and with this being the fastest seated zip line in the world, it was definitely not one to miss!

7. Drive another hour on from Zip World and visit Barry Island, the home of Gavin and Stacey
Even if you aren’t a fan of Gavin and Stacey, Barry Island has lots to do – amusements, rides, shops, restaurants and the beach! By the time we got to Barry Island, it was a lot cooler and the rain had started to pour down, but we didn’t let it get to us.
It was great to see where different parts of the show were filmed – we saw where Nessa worked in the amusements, Stacey’s house, Bryn’s House and the surrounding area that has featured in the show a lot, like the beach!
